Fire Destroys Lake Park Business

Lake Park, Iowa– A business was destroyed in a fire on Thursday, December 20, 2018 in Lake Park.

According to Lake Park Fire Chief Brandon Ehret, about 12:30 a.m., the Lake Park Fire Department was called to the fire at Market Street Tire at 218 Market Street in Lake Park.

The chief says the fire department saw fire in the back of the shop area as they approached the scene. He says they tried to knock down the fire by entering the front of the building but they had to get out as the fire was spreading to the front. He says the shop was fully involved in fire. He says they tried to put it out by spraying water from three sides. He says there was heavy smoke due to the tires in the building.

Chief Ehret reports that the shop, an office, a storage room and two cars were destroyed in the fire. However, he says they were able to save a building to the southeast.

Ehret says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by firefighters from Spirit Lake, Milford, Ocheyedan, and Harris, as well as personnel from Dickinson County Emergency Management, Lakes Regional Hospital Ambulance, Lake Park Rescue, and the Lake Park Police Department, according to Ehret.

He reports that the State Fire Marshal’s office says the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but the investigation continues.

He says they used fire hydrants and tankers hauled water from Silver Lake to fight the fire. Ehret says the 40 to 50 firefighters who responded were on scene until 8:30 a.m. — for about eight hours.
