Ashton, Iowa — An older refrigerated semi trailer was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, near Ashton.
According to Ashton Fire Chief Andy Gacke, at about 4:30 p.m., the Ashton Fire Department was called to the report of a semi fire on Highway 60 near the ethanol plant south of Ashton.
The chief says the fire department saw the semi tractor had been disconnected and the trailer was on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.
Gacke says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a malfunction of the braking system.
Chief Gacke reports that the trailer was totaled in the blaze.
He says the four firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
