Fire Destroys Tractor Southeast Of Sioux Center

Sioux Center, Iowa — A tractor was destroyed in a fire on Friday, September 6, 2019, near Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Firefighter Kelli Willett, about 5:30 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a tractor fire near 420th Street and Ibex Avenue, a mile south of Pizza Hut in Sioux Center, and then about three miles east on B46.

She says the fire department could see flames from town as they were responding, and lots of smoke as they approached the scene. She says they were able to extinguish the fire, but not before it destroyed the older tractor. Firefighter Willett says that it appeared that the tractor was pumping from a pit and was basically only used for that purpose. She says the farmer told her that it had been running when it stopped, and that’s when the farmer noticed it was on fire and called 911.

She says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

She says the twelve firefighters who responded were on the scene for about half an hour.
