Firefighters Called To Central Catering In Hawarden

Hawarden, Iowa — A fire call in Hawarden on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 could have been worse.

According to Hawarden Fire Chief Duane Schiefen, about 12:20 p.m., the Hawarden Fire Department was called to the report of a fire in the kitchen at Central Catering in Hawarden.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke when they entered the building. He says the workers there had been able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. He says something cooking under a hood got out-of-hand. He says they did do some temperature checks to make sure the fire was out, did a little overhaul, and ventilated the building.

He says there was no real damage to the building except what the firefighters did through their overhaul efforts.

Schiefen says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Ireton Fire Department and the Hawarden Ambulance Squad.

He says the 25 firefighters who responded were on scene for about 20 minutes.
