Florida Woman Injured When Her Semi Crashes Early Friday Near Alton

Alton, Iowa — A Florida woman was transported to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning near Alton.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at about 6:15 Friday morning when a 2016 Volvo semi tractor pulling a trailer was northbound on Highway 60 near Alton. Troopers say the driver, 28-year-old Shafele Williams of Tampa, Florida, lost control of the big rig on the slippery roadway and entered the east ditch, where the truck jackknifed.

Williams was transported to the Orange City Area Health System hospital by the Alton Ambulance for treatment of what troopers describe as minor injuries.

Damage to Williams’ semi, which is owned by DD Logistics of Bolingbrook, Illinois, is estimated at $40,000.
