Four Fire Departments, Farmers Extinguish Field Fire Near Hospers

Hospers, Iowa– Four fire departments extinguished a field fire on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, near Hospers.

According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, at about 1:45 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a field fire near Kennedy Avenue and 400th Street, five miles west of Hospers or a mile west of Newkirk.

The chief says the fire department saw moderate smoke as they approached the scene. He says farmers with disks helped them extinguish the flames.

Overmole says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Alton, Boyden, and Granville fire departments.

He says the cause of the fire may have been carelessly discarded smoking materials.

Chief Overmole reports that the damage was limited to bean stubble.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for 45 minutes.
