Four Taken To Hospital After Accident In Sioux Center Wednesday

Sioux Center, Iowa– A Rock Valley teen and a Sioux Center woman were taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that at about 6:00 p.m., 16-year-old Blake Joffer of Rock Valley was driving a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica northbound on Highway 75, at the Pizza Hut corner. They tell us that 45-year-old Carie Rus of Sioux Center was southbound on 75 in a 2015 Chevy SUV.

The report says that Joffer was attempting to turn westbound onto 20th Street Southwest. He says there were two vehicles on the inside lane heading southbound, who were attempting to turn east onto 20th Street Southeast, and said his line of sight was blocked by the two vehicles on the inside lane. He says he thought it was clear and pulled out, into the path of the Rus Chevy.

Rus says she was previously on the inside lane behind the turning vehicles, but moved to the outside lane to get around them.

A friend took Joffer to Sioux Center Health Hospital. A passenger in his vehicle, 66-year-old Joan Groeneweg, was taken to Sioux Center Health by the Sioux Center Ambulance Crew.

They also took Rus to Sioux Center Health Hospital. A passenger in her vehicle, 16-year-old Ashli Rus, was also taken to the hospital by her father.

Joffer’s Chrysler Pacifica and Rus’s Chevy SUV sustained $5000 in damages, each.

Joffer was charged with failure to yield upon left turn.
