Four Taken To Hospital After Highway 60 Accident Near Carnes

Carnes, Iowa — Four people were taken to a hospital after a crash on Highway 60 near Carnes on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 1:55 p.m. 89-year-old Dinah Ter Horst of Sioux Center was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan southbound on Highway 60, about four and a half miles southwest of Orange City, near Carnes. They report that 55-year-old Keith Maassen of Spencer was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country minivan also southbound on Highway 60 behind Ter Horst, when Maassen struck the Dodge.

Ambulance services from Alton and Orange City took both drivers and two passengers to Orange City Area Health. Their injuries were described as “minor.”

The Ter Horst Dodge sustained about $5,000 in damage. The Maassen Chrysler sustained an estimated $6,000 in damage.

Maassen was cited on a charge of following too closely.

The sheriff’s office reports that the Orange City Fire Department, The Orange City Ambulance Squad, The Alton Ambulance Squad, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted with the response to the accident.
