Orange City, Iowa — A Telehandler was destroyed in a fire on Friday, October 20, 2023 near Orange City.
According to Orange City Fire Chief Denny Vander Wel, at about 6:00 p.m., the Orange City Fire Department was called to the report of a Telehandler on fire on 460th Street, about a quarter mile west of Ironwood Avenue, a mile south and a mile and a quarter west of Orange City, right on the road. Both the Orange City and Alton fire departments responded, as per their mutual aid agreement that states that both departments respond to all calls in both territories.
Vander Wel says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is most likely to have been a hydraulic leak onto the exhaust manifold.
Chief Vander Wel reports that the machine was destroyed in the blaze. He estimates it was worth over $60,000.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half an hour.
