George, Iowa — A George man faces a mixture of felony and misdemeanor charges following an incident early Monday evening in George.
According to court records, 29-year-old Michael William Stofferan is accused of assaulting a victim by pointing a 12 gauge shotgun at him and racking the weapon’s action, allegedly placing the victim in fear.
Deputies say a search warrant was later executed at Stofferan’s residence, at which time the shotgun and ammunition were allegedly recovered. In addition, deputies report finding methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during the search of the home.
According to court records, Stofferan has a past domestic abuse conviction, along with other convictions that bar him from possessing a firearm.
Court records indicate that Stofferan was placed under arrest on charges of: Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuser, which is a Class D Felony; Assault While Participating in a Felony, which is also a Class D Felony; Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, which is an Aggravated Misdemeanor; 1st Degree Harassment, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; Possession of Methamphetamine, a Serious Misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.
He was taken to the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids.
