Melvin Pair Sentenced In Child Abuse Case

Sibley, Iowa — A Melvin pair have been sentenced in connection with a child abuse case dating back to 2020.

According to court records, Donna Rae Reisdorfer and Derek Michael White, both of Melvin, were arrested in September, 2020 as the result of an investigation into allegations of child abuse.

The duo faced identical charges including: 1 count of Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person, which is a Class C Felony; and 2 counts of Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury, which is a Class D Felony. Both were sentenced Monday (March 21, 2022) in Osceola County Court in Sibley, after being found guilty.

According to online court records, Derek White was sentenced to 10-years in prison on the Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person charge, and 5-years on each count of Child Endangerment with Bodily Injury. The two 5-year terms are to be served concurrently, for a total of 5-years on the two charges. However, the 10-year sentence and the 5-year sentence will be served consecutively for a total of 15-years in prison.

Online court records indicate that Donna Reisdorfer was sentenced to 5-years’ probation on one of the Child Endangerment with Injury charges, with the other Child Endangerment with Injury charge, as well as the Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person charge dismissed by the court.
