Rock Valley, Iowa — A George woman faces felony and misdemeanor charges, and her boyfriend faces five misdemeanor charges in the aftermath of a traffic stop in Rock Valley in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
According to Rock Valley Police Chief Monte Warburton, the incident occurred shortly before 1:15 Sunday morning when a Rock Valley police officer made a routine traffic stop. The Chief says as the vehicle was pulling over, the arresting officer allegedly witnessed the vehicle’s driver strike her passenger three times in the chest.
He says the officer reportedly noticed the strong smell of alcohol when talking to the driver, who Warburton identifies as 45-year-old Sara Anne Shuey. After allegedly failing field sobriety tests, Shuey was placed under arrest for 3rd Offense OWI, a Class D Felony, along with Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor, for allegedly striking her passenger.
A reported physical altercation with arresting officers culminated in the arrest of Shuey’s passenger, 45-year-old Michael Bruhn of George, on three counts of Assault on a Police Officer, a Serious Misdemeanor, one count of Interference With Official Acts, and one count of having an Open Container of alcohol, both simple misdemeanors.
Both Shuey and Bruhn were reportedly taken to the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, and later released on bond.
