Alcester, South Dakota — The Hawarden Fire Department and Ambulance Service responded to the report of an accident that sent one person to a hospital. The crash happened west of Hawarden on Wednesday, August 24th.
According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened at the intersection of 302nd Street and 481st Avenue, one mile southwest of Alcester, about 5:20 p.m., when a 1984 Ford F7000 utility truck was northbound on 481st Avenue and failed to stop at the posted stop at the intersection with 302nd Street.
The vehicle collided with a 2017 Ford Escape that was eastbound on 302nd Street.
The 73-year-old female of the Ford Escape received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Hawarden. The 45-year-old female passenger was not injured. The 68-year-old male driver of the truck was also not injured.
All three people were wearing seatbelts.
The Highway Patrol is investigating. They tell us that all information is preliminary at this point.
As a point of explanation, the State of South Dakota does not release names of those involved in accidents until three days after the accident, and even then, only if the victims or their families approve the release of the name.
