Larchwood Man Charged With Seven Felony Counts After Deputies Carry Out Search Warrant

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Larchwood man who’s been wanted in connection with thefts in the area was arrested on Wednesday, August 24th, and faces at least seven felony counts and several misdemeanor counts.

According to criminal complaints filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s office, 36-year-old Daniel Lee Viereck is accused of several crimes. The complaints say that on Sunday, July 24, 2022, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at Viereck’s place and found several stolen items from a number of burglaries both in Lyon County and in South Dakota. They say they also found a gun, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of methamphetamine along with tools that could be used for distribution. Since Viereck is a convicted felon, he is not eligible to own a gun.

The complaints say that in late July, Viereck allegedly attempted to pawn a stolen chain saw in Sioux Falls.

Viereck was charged with felon in possession of a firearm, three counts of third-degree burglary, and two counts of second-degree theft, all class D felonies. He was also charged with drug trafficking, a class B felony.

If convicted of a class B felony, Viereck could be sentenced to a 25-year prison term.

Court records indicate Viereck faces a preliminary hearing on September 2nd at the Lyon County Courthouse. At last report, he remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of a $59,000 bond.
