Hawarden Man Sentenced After Burglary Plea

Orange City, Iowa — A Hawarden man has been sentenced after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge.

Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says that 45-year-old Jeffery Scott Mueller of Hawarden has been sentenced in Sioux County District Court for the crimes Burglary, a Class D Felony; and Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

Kunstle’s office says that on July 5, 2019, surveillance footage revealed Mueller entering into a Central Catering vehicle and building without the right to do so and committing a theft. Further investigation revealed Mueller, a former disgruntled employee who is still in the restaurant business, stole restaurant related items from Central Catering.

Kunstle says that Mueller accepted a plea agreement and pleaded guilty. The Court sentenced him to a seven-year prison term which was suspended along with a five-year probation term. Mueller was further ordered to have no contact with the victims and to complete a substance abuse evaluation and comply with any recommendations. After a contested restitution hearing, the Court ordered Mueller to pay the victims restitution in the amount of nearly $2000.
