George, Iowa — A house received major damage in a fire on Friday, December 17, 2021, in George.
According to George Fire Chief Bill Sprock, about 8:40 a.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 219 East Iowa Avenue in George. He says the occupants were alerted to the fire by a passerby.
The chief says the fire department saw the back half of the house fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.
Sprock says no injuries were reported, but the house is not livable at this time. The Siouxland Red Cross was called in to assist the family to find a place to live for now. The house was boarded up and is surrounded by caution tape. A bathroom, the kitchen, and an upstairs bedroom saw most of the damage, with smoke damage throughout the three-story structure.
Little Rock firefighters are paged to structure fire calls in George, and vice versa, so they responded as well.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature, and that there was probably over $35,000 in damage.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene until 11:15 a.m.
