Hospers Man Arrested After Crashing Motorcycle Near Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — A Hospers man was injured in a motorcycle crash early Sunday evening near Sheldon has been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to Sioux County authorities the crash happened about four miles southwest of Sheldon shortly after 5:00 Sunday evening.

Deputies say the crash happened when 49-year old Joel Griffith was driving a 1979 Kawasaki GS1000 Motorcycle southbound on Lily Avenue when he struck a low-hanging, storm damaged power line suspended across the roadway. Cops say that portion of Lily Avenue was barricaded and closed for electrical power line repairs when the crash happened.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says Griffith was taken by SCAT to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Damage to Griffith’s motorcycle was estimated at approximately $1-thousand.

Early Monday morning, Sioux County deputies arrested Griffith on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle With a Revoked Driver’s License. Deputies say they believe alcohol was a factor in Sunday evening’s crash, which remains under investigation.

Sioux County deputies were assisted at the scene by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon Fire Department, and Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.
