Hospers Teen Faces Two Felony Counts In Connection With Vehicle Theft Case

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Hospers teen faces two felony charges after a series of incidents on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in Sioux County.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s office, 18-year-old Ayden Joslin of Hospers was arrested that night and faces charges by both the sheriff’s office and the Sioux Center Police Department.

The first arrest and charge stemmed from a joint case investigation between the sheriff’s office and the Sioux Center Police Department that began when the sheriff’s office received a report of a vehicle that was stolen from a residence in Hospers.

The sheriff’s office tells us Sioux Center Police Officers later located the stolen vehicle in Sioux Center and attempted to stop the driver. After a vehicle pursuit in Sioux Center, they say the vehicle struck a curb and became disabled on a lawn. Joslin was the driver of the vehicle and was taken into custody and was taken to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged by the Sioux Center Police Department with several traffic violations and felony eluding. The sheriff’s office charged him with theft in connection with the alleged theft of the vehicle from the Hospers resident.

Both charges are class D felonies. If convicted of either one, he could face up to five years in prison. The traffic charges are all misdemeanor-level offenses, but there are eleven of them, according to the Sioux County arrest log.

At last report, Joslin remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $5000 bond. He faces a preliminary hearing on Thursday, November 9th.
