Three Girls Injured In Crash Near Rock Rapids

Rock Rapids, Iowa– Three girls were injured in an accident near Rock Rapids on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 3:40 p.m., a juvenile female was driving a 2006 Chevy westbound on 160th Street, about two miles west of the South 12th Avenue and Highway 75 intersection in the southern part of Rock Rapids, near the former Jansma Cattle Company.

The report says that the driver lost control after the road surface transitioned from pavement to gravel at Goldfinch Avenue. The vehicle entered the south ditch, rolled multiple times, came to rest on its roof, and caught fire.

The Lyon County Ambulance took the driver to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital. Two other girls in the vehicle were also injured. One was taken to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls and the other was not transported to a hospital.

The trooper’s report says the crash remains under investigation.

The Rock Rapids Fire Department, Lyon County Ambulance Squad, Trackside Towing, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
