Sioux County, Iowa, northeast of Fairview, South Dakota — A house was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Iowa, northeast of Fairview, South Dakota.
According to Fairview Fire Chief Jerome Van De Stroet, at about 9:45 p.m., the Fairview Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 1312 280th Street, 2.3 miles northwest of Fairview, or about three-quarters of a mile southeast of Inspiration Hills.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw flames on the exterior of the house. He says they used an external attack to fight the fire.
Van De Stroet says no injuries were reported to people, pets, or livestock.
The Inwood and Canton fire departments assisted the Fairview firefighters.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but the ignition source was from outside the house.
Chief Van De Stroet reports that the damage was moderate. He says it’s repairable but it’s going to take lots of work.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for between an hour and a half and two hours. He tells us they knocked down the flames in minutes, but mop-up took the rest of the time.
