Hospers, Iowa — A house and shed combination building was damaged in a fire on Thursday, April 22, 2021, near Hospers.
According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, at about 3:50 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire near Kiwi Avenue and 400th Street, three miles west of Hospers or a mile east of Newkirk.
The chief says the fire department saw flames coming from the eaves of the shed part of the building in one corner as they approached the scene. He says they had the fire contained within five to ten minutes but spent significant time using their thermal imaging camera to look for and extinguish hot spots, pulling off tin and insulation.
Overmole says no injuries were reported as no one was currently living in the house.
The fire department was assisted by Granville and Alton fire departments. The Granville Fire Department responds with the Hospers Fire Department now, says Overmole, and they paged Alton for extra water in case they needed it.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation but it is thought to have been electrical in nature.
Chief Overmole reports that there was moderate structural damage.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for three hours.
