House Totaled, Several Pets Die In Fire Fought By Seven Fire Departments

Sioux County Iowa, near Hudson, SD — A house was destroyed in a fire on Friday, April 15, 2022, near Hudson, SD.

According to Hudson, SD Fire Chief Justin Teunissen, about midnight, the Hudson Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 1851 360th Street, about a mile and a half east of Hudson.

The chief says the fire department saw the house was engulfed in smoke and flames as they approached the scene. He says the owner told him all the humans were out of the house, but there were still several pets inside. According to Teunissen, firefighters fought the fire with an exterior attack.

Teunissen says a few pets were saved, but several died in the fire. No human injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Rock Valley, Hull, Hawarden, Inwood, Ireton, and Sioux Center fire departments.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature, and the home was totaled in the blaze.

He says the 65-70 firefighters who responded were on the scene for five and a half hours.

The family was able to make other temporary living arrangements.
