Sioux Center, Iowa — An Ireton man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon while attempting to avoid a collision with a vehicle that had pulled out in front of his motorcycle about 7 miles west of Sioux Center.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 45-year-old Timothy Renken of Hawarden was eastbound on 420th Street, in a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup, and had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Eagle Avenue. The report says Renken then pulled from the stop sign into the path of a 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by 33-year-old Wesley Orban of Ireton.
Troopers say Orban attempted to stop, then skidded, finally dumping his bike that then slid on its side before coming to rest in the intersection.
The two vehicles did not collide, and Renken reportedly told troopers he had not seen Orban’s motorcycle before entering the intersection.
Orban was seriously injured in the mishap and transported to Sioux Center Health by the Ireton Ambulance.
Damage to Orban’s Harley was estimated at $10,000, with no damage to Renken’s pickup.
Renken was cited for failing to yield the right of way from a stop sign.
