Two Rescued After Being Trapped In Grain At Marcus Elevator

Marcus, Iowa — Two individuals were rescued in Marcus Monday afternoon after becoming trapped in grain inside a grain elevator.

Shortly before 4:00 pm Monday Marcus Fire & Rescue, along with the Marcus Police Department, were dispatched to First Cooperative Elevator in Marcus in regard to a subject trapped in a grain elevator.
According to Marcus Police, on arrival it was determined that two First Cooperative Employees were trapped in the grain within the elevator. Emergency responders were able to enter the elevator and provide the victims with oxygen and fluids while rescue efforts began.
Police say rescuers not only had to enter the grain elevator to tend and treat the victims they also had to move tons of grain. Moving the grain occurred by vacuums, shovels, buckets and by hand. Authorities say many of the fire and EMS workers had to be rotated out so they could be evaluated as they were working in harsh conditions putting themselves at risk.

After approximately 2 hours both men were rescued from the elevator and transported to MercyOne for evaluation, according to authorities.
