Doon, Iowa — A Sibley man has been arrested on an OWI charge after a fatal crash between Doon and George in July.

A criminal complaint filed by the Iowa State Patrol in district court accuses 69-year-old Steven Ludwig of Sibley of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Saturday.

In his statement, the deputy says that Ludwig was one of the drivers involved in the fatal crash. A search warrant was obtained for specimen samples from Ludwig, which have now come back and have shown that he was positive for marijuana metabolites.

It should be noted that according to the official accident report, Ludwig was not at fault in the crash. Another driver failed to stop for a stop sign. Ludwig’s passenger, 73-year-old Joleene Klaassen of Sibley, died as a result of the crash.

Ludwig was charged with operating while under the influence, 2nd offense, which is a misdemeanor count. He was also charged with failure to use seat belts.
