Alvord, Iowa — The Alvord Fire Department was called out on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
According to Alvord Fire Chief Tanner Van Middendorp, at about 2:25 p.m., firefighters were called to the report of an old hog barn on fire at 2004 190th Street, five miles west and two north of Alvord.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw light smoke and a little fire on the outside of the building. He says they used water to fight the fire.
Van Middendorp says no injuries were reported and there was no pet or livestock loss.
The Doon Fire Department also responded per their auto-aid agreement, but the chief says they turned the Doon firefighters around while the Alvord units were still en route.
He says the owner of the property thinks it happened when an electrical line shorted out.
Chief Van Middendorp reports that the damage was minor. He says the building had already been partially knocked down before the fire.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 20 minutes.
