Little Rock Fire Department Extinguishes Fire

Little Rock, Iowa — Grass fires continue to be common in northwest Iowa. Firefighters say the situation is made worse by the strong winds we’ve been having.

Little Rock Firefighters were called out about 11:15 a.m. on Friday for a grass fire out of control on 160th street between McKinley and Monroe avenues. That’s a mile south of the Little Rock corner on Highway 9 and a mile and a half east. Fire Chief Joe Schilling reports that a farmer was burning his fenceline and the wind came up and made the fire spread more quickly than the farmer was comfortable with, so the fire department was called.

Schilling says they extinguished the fire with water. He says no injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to about two acres of grass. He says they were on the scene for around 45 minutes, and the Little Rock EMS Squad assisted at the scene.

He says the farmer called quickly and response time was pretty good, which was fortunate, because in his words, “A few more minutes [and] it would have been a lot worse.”
