Orange City, Iowa — A Monona, Iowa man has been arrested on a warrant for burglary, assault and other charges after an incident in Orange City.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Orange City Police Department, 35-year-old Michael Walters of Monona is accused of breaking into a home and assaulting the occupant early on November 21st. He was arrested on Thursday, December 1st.
The complaint states that at about 3:00 in the morning, he entered the victim’s apartment. The officer says Walters had the intent to commit a domestic assault. Once inside, the officer says Walters did assault the occupant, with whom he had been involved in a relationship. According to the officer’s statement, Walters’ alleged assault included pushing the victim to the ground and covering her mouth and nose, disrupting her breathing, and causing injury. The officer says Walters also allegedly damaged a TV.
Walters was charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony, and domestic abuse assault impeding air or blood flow, a class D felony. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief. If convicted of a class B felony, Walters could face up to 25 years in prison. If convicted of a class D felony, he could face up to five years in prison.
Walters faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, December 13th.
At last report, Walters remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, in lieu of a $15,000 bond.
