Man In Jail After Alton Burglary

Alton, Iowa — A man is behind bars at the Sioux County Jail in Orange City after the report of a burglary in Alton.

According to criminal complaints filed by the Orange City Police Department with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s office, 35-year-old Brian Duane Cook Jr. faces three felony charges in connection with the incident. Cook faces charges of Third-Degree Burglary, Second-Degree Theft, and Second-Degree Criminal Mischief.

The officer filing the complaint says sometime between the evening of Friday, November 4th, and the morning of Sunday, November 6th, Cook allegedly entered an unattached garage at an Alton home and spray painted the floor, and damaged one of the garage doors. Another complaint says that on Friday evening or early Saturday, he also used a hidden key to unlock a door and steal multiple Milwaukee brand tools valued at over $1000.

The officer’s narrative says that Cook was also in possession of other stolen property from another individual that he had been recently living with. That property was valued at over $1300 says the officer.

The Sioux County Jail log says Cook was also charged with trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At last report, he remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City without bond. He faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, November 15th.
