Man Taken To Hospital, Jail After Accident

Alvord, Iowa — An Inwood man was taken to the hospital and then to jail after an accident last week near Alvord.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, they received a report of a vehicle in the ditch as well as an unconscious driver in the 2000 Blk of Elmwood Avenue. Upon further investigation, deputies believe 36-year-old Clinton Berentschot of Inwood was driving a 2022 Chevy Silverado pickup, when he entered the west ditch, where the pickup remained until first responders arrived.

The Lyon County Ambulance Squad took Berentschot to Avera Rock Rapids Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says Berentschot was later arrested on misdemeanor charges of OWI, Failure to maintain Control, and Open Container.

They report that the Alvord Fire Department and Rescue Unit, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, and Trackside Towing assisted with the response to the accident.
