Maurice Firefighters Extinguish Wheel Fire On Concrete Tanker

Maurice, Iowa — A concrete tanker semi was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, near Maurice.

According to Maurice Fire Chief Jeff Vander Weide, about 12:00 noon, the Maurice Fire Department was called to the report of a vehicle fire at the Million Dollar Corner at the junction of Highways 10 and 75, two miles north of Maurice.

The chief says the fire department saw the back wheels of the semi tanker on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Vander Weide says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a malfunction, which caused the brakes to lock up.

Chief Vander Weide reports that the tires and wheels were destroyed, and there may have been additional damage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for 20 minutes.
