Milford Man Jailed In Lyon County On Felony Drug Charges

Larchwood, Iowa — What began as a traffic stop has resulted in felony drug charges against a Milford man.

According to documents filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court, about 7:45 Tuesday evening (March 8th), a Lyon County deputy made a traffic stop on Highway 9 near Larchwood. According to court records, the deputy allegedly detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The deputy stated that, once in his patrol vehicle, he allegedly detected the odor of marijuana on the vehicle’s driver, 55-year-old Thomas Dotson, of Milford.

According to the deputy, a search of Dotson’s vehicle, as well as his person, turned up a small quantity of marijuana, multiple torch lighters, along with other drug paraphernalia and a total of 35 grams of methamphetamine.

Dotson was placed under arrest on charges of: Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, a Class B Felony; Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a Class D Felony; 1st Offense Possession of Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.

Dotson made his initial court appearance Wednesday morning, where a Preliminary Hearing in the case was set for 1:30 pm on Friday March 18th in Lyon County Magistrate Court.
