Nebraska Woman Faces Four Felony Counts Including Forgery And Eluding After 2023 Incident In Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Nebraska woman has been arrested on a warrant for four felony charges in connection with alleged crimes in Rock Valley in 2023.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Rock Valley Police Department, 36-year-old Jessica Burns of Lincoln, Nebraska is accused of passing a fraudulent check, eluding police, and identity theft in 2023. She was arrested on the warrant on Tuesday.

In his statement, the officer says that in July of 2023, using a stolen identity and ID, Burns attempted to present a fraudulent check to Peoples Bank in Rock Valley in the amount of $3800. He says she then drove a vehicle in a manner to elude police, exceeding the speed limit by over 25 miles per hour, failing to stop for a stop sign, and driving recklessly.

Burns was charged with four class D felony counts, including forgery, identity theft, second-degree fraudulent practice, and eluding at over 25 miles per hour over the limit. If convicted, Burns could face up to five years in prison on each count, for a total possible sentence of 20 years.

She faces a preliminary hearing on October 29th.

At last report, Burns remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
