One Man From Hartley, One From Sheldon Taken To Hospital After Accident

Sheldon, Iowa– A Hartley man and a Sheldon man were both taken to the hospital after an accident in Sheldon on Monday, November 27, 2023.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that at about 2:50 p.m., 79-year-old Roger Rosenboom of Hartley was driving a 2021 Chevy pickup northbound on Crossroads Drive in Sheldon, near Ziegler Cat and Bomgaars. They tell us that 86-year-old James De Jong of Sheldon was eastbound on Highway 18 in a 2005 Dodge pickup.

The report says that Rosenboom was stopped at the north bound stop sign at the intersection of Crossroads Drive and Highway 18. The officer says Rosenboom failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign, and his pickup was struck by De Jong as Rosenboom attempted to cross the highway.

SCAT took both drivers to Sanford Sheldon.

The report says both pickups were totaled in the mishap, receiving an estimated $25,000 in damage, each.

The Sheldon Fire Company and Sheldon Emergency Management assisted at the scene.
