Orange City Man Injured In Tuesday Morning Crash

Orange City, Iowa — An elderly Orange City man was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Orange City Tuesday morning.

According to a report from the Orange City Police Department, the mishap took place at 9:15 Tuesday morning at the intersection of Albany Place Southeast and 11th Street Southeast in Orange City. Police say a 2016 Kia Optima, driven by 14-year-old Kaden Michael Steckelberg of Orange City, was westbound on 11th Street Southeast and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Albany Place Southeast. Steckelberg then pulled into the intersection where his car was struck by a 2005 Buick LaCrosse, driven by 87-year-old Clarence Pennings of rural Orange City. Steckelberg reportedly told police that he didn’t see Pennings’ car before pulling into the intersection.

Police say Pennings was injured in the crash, and was transported to the Orange City Health System.

Steckelberg was reportedly ticketed for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign and Yield the Right of Way.

Damage to Steckelberg’s Kia was estimated at $7,000, with an estimated $3,000 damage to Pennings’ Buick.
