Orange City Woman Injured When Her Bicycle Struck By Car

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after her bicycle was struck by a car.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, they were called to a car vs bicycle accident a half mile east of the south side of Orange City on 460th Street, shortly before 4:00 Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies say 53-year old Donna Mills was riding a bicycle westbound on 460th Street when her bicycle was struck, on the roadway, by a westbound 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 51-year old Roger Schmit of Granville.

Mills was reportedly transported to the Orange City Hospital by Orange City Ambulance for what were described as “minor injuries”.

Officials estimate the damage to Schmit’s car at $500. Authorities say Schmit was cited for Driving Too Close to a Bicyclist.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Orange City Police Department.
