Passenger Injured In Single-Vehicle Crash Near Hawarden

Hawarden, Iowa — One person was injured in a single-vehicle traffic crash near Hawarden Wednesday evening.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap took place shortly after 7:30 Wednesday evening at the intersection of 440th Street and Buchanan Avenue, one-quarter mile northeast of Hawarden. Deputies say 19-year-old Mario Martinez of Ames was eastbound on 440th Street when he encountered the T-intersection at Buchanan Avenue, lost control of his 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, and entered the east ditch.

Authorities say a passenger in Martinez’ vehicle was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to the Hawarden Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Deputies estimate approximately $8,000 damage to Martinez’ pickup.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hawarden Ambulance and Hawarden Police Department.
