Rock Valley Fire Department Responds To Downtown Fire Call

Rock Valley, Iowa — The Rock Valley Fire Department was called out on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, for a call in downtown Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 1:30 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of an electrical fire at Something Special, at 1447 Main Street, in downtown Rock Valley.

The chief says the fire department arrived to find an electric cord that had melted, with smoke in the building. He says they didn’t have to extinguish the fire, as it was out when they arrived. He says they used a positive pressure fan to ventilate the building.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported. He says the Hull firefighters always come to these types of calls in Rock Valley, and when he heard that it was a fire in a business on main street, he had the Sioux Center aerial truck paged to the scene. But when he found out what they were dealing with, he had dispatch tell both other departments to disregard before they got to Rock Valley.

He says the cause of the issue appeared to have been an overloaded cord or adapter.

Chief Eshuis reports that there was minimal damage, which was limited to the electrical equipment.

He says the 15 firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half an hour.
