George, Iowa — A lean-to building and some straw and cornstalk bales were destroyed in a fire on Friday, September 11, 2026, near George.
According to George Fire Assistant Chief Josh Eben, at about 2:00 p.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a structure fire at 1674 Jefferson Avenue, four miles north and a mile west of George.
When they got there, the assistant chief says the fire department saw heavy smoke coming from the lean-to building, which was covering several small square bales of straw and cornstalks. They put out the flames. Assistant Chief Eben says no injuries were reported and there was no livestock or pets nearby.
The Little Rock firefighters provided mutual aid.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Assistant Chief Eben reports that the lean-to and the bales were totaled in the blaze.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for an hour and a half to two hours.
