Ireton, Iowa– A Hawarden man and a Spencer woman were flown to Sioux Falls hospitals after a crash near Ireton on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 7:50 a.m., 37-year-old Derek Jungeward of Hawarden was driving a 2015 Chevy northbound on Dipper Avenue or K22, two miles south and three west of Ireton or a mile east of McNally. They tell us that 68-year-old Carmen Noteboom of Spencer was southbound on Dipper in a 2004 Ford pickup.

The report says that the Jungeward Chevy crossed the center line, striking the Noteboom pickup in the southbound lane.

The Sanford AirMed helicopter took Jungeward to Avera McKennan Hospital and Noteboom to Sanford University Medical Center, both in Sioux Falls, where, according to the trooper, at last report, they were both in stable condition.

Troopers were assisted by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and Ireton Fire and Rescue personnel.
