(KIWA Staff Photo)Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Spencer man has been arrested on a felony drug charge after a traffic stop in Rock Rapids.
A criminal complaint filed by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in district court accuses 38-year-old Bryan Kladstrup of Spencer of the third or subsequent offense of possession of a controlled substance.
In his statement, the deputy says he stopped the vehicle because of weaving in the lane, varying speeds and making a lane change in an intersection. He says Kladstrup had red, bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. He says a K9 alert gave probable cause to search the vehicle for drugs, and the search turned up two plastic baggies containing a white crystallized substance, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Kladstrup was charged with third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of first-offense operating while intoxicated.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Friday, September 25th.
Kladstrap was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, and was released three days later, after posting a $5000 bond.
