(KIWA Staff Photo)Iowa (RI) — The Iowa Utility Commission got public input Monday on proposed February and March hearings that would determine whether to grant two pipeline permits to SCS Carbon Transport.
The two proposed lines would connect POET Bioprocessing in Ida County and Valero Renewables in Floyd County to Summit Carbon Solutions’ larger pipeline network — a project that faces legal challenges and has not been built.
SCS Carbon Transport attorney Brant Leonard asked commissioners for a shorter timeline.
Pipeline opponents like Deborah Main argued the hearings should not be scheduled until the first phase of Summit’s project advances.
The project was largely blocked in South Dakota, and the first phase has not been built as court appeals continue. Landowner Terry Beek said the proposed schedule feels rushed.
The Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Renewable Fuels Association joined SCS in asking the commission to set hearings in mid-December.
