(KIWA Staff Photo)Des Moines, Iowa (KTIV-TV) — The Iowa Department of Education has named the 2027 Iowa Regional Teachers of the Year, and two of them are from nearby.
The Iowa Department of Education started recognizing excellence in teaching in 2025, and each year an educator representing one of Iowa’s nine education regions is chosen for their instruction and impact on their students.
Roselyn Schillerstrom was recognized as the Northwest Regional Teacher of the Year. She is an English language arts teacher at West Lyon High School and has been teaching for 30 years.
Abby Goodlaxson was recognized as the Prairie Lake Regional Teacher of the Year. She is a physical education and health teacher at Okoboji Community School District and has spent the past 27 years empowering her students through fitness and wellness activities.
The teachers are finalists for the 2027 Iowa Teacher of the Year award, which will be announced later this fall.
