Terril, Iowa — A Dickinson County roadway was shut down for several hours Friday morning after a semi driven by a Paullina man was struck by an SUV.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office investigated that collision shortly after 10:00 am Friday morning at the intersection of 310th Avenue and 200th Street, north of Terril.
Deputies say a 2003 Peterbilt semi-tractor, pulling a loaded grain trailer, driven by 46-year-old Chad Simm of Paullina, was southbound on 310th Avenue, and a 2012 GMC Yukon, driven by 65-year-old Janet Smith of Estherville, was westbound on 200th Street, when she failed to yield the right-of-way and entered the intersection, striking Simm’s Peterbilt on the driver’s side. According to authorities, both vehicles went out of control due to the impact, with Smith’s Yukon coming to rest in the east ditch, while Simm’s Peterbilt and trailer rolled onto its side, blocking the entire roadway and spilling its load of pelletized soybean meal.
