Rash Of Catalytic Converter Thefts In Area

Sibley, Iowa — The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office would like the public to be aware of a recent rash of catalytic converter thefts in the area.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, over the last month and a half, three vehicles in Osceola County had their catalytic converters cut off and stolen. The perpetrators appear to be using a portal Sawzall to cut the converters off.

Authorities say the perpetrators are targeting vehicles with high ground clearance in order to easily access the catalytic converters and cut them off.

The locations for the incidents varied, one vehicle was parked in a field by Harris, one next to Highway 60 by Ashton, and the third was parked behind a repair shop in Sibley.

According to the sheriff’s office, several other counties have reported similar incidents, as well.

If you have any information about these incidents, you’re asked to contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office or your local law enforcement agency.
