Remsen Teen Taken To Hospital After Accident With Farm Implement Near Matlock

Matlock, Iowa– A Remsen teen was taken to the hospital after an accident near Matlock on Monday, April 24, 2023.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 8:05 p.m., 17-year-old Miranda Ross of Remsen was driving a 2006 Chevy southbound on Lily Avenue, just north of 310th Street, a mile east and three south of Matlock. They tell us that 27-year-old Marshall Ohrt of Paullina was also southbound on Lily in a 2023 Case farm tractor pulling a manure tanker.

The report says that while Ohrt did have his amber flashers going, the vehicle was displaying a slow-moving vehicle sign that was partly obstructed. It says Ohrt signaled to turn left onto 310th Avenue. Ross went to pass the tractor and implement as it was turning and ran into the back of the tanker.

The Boyden Ambulance took Ross to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Ross’s Chevy sustained $3,000 in damages, which was enough to total the vehicle, and Ohrt’s manure tanker sustained $2000 in damages.

Ross was charged with failure to stop in assured clear distance.
