Archer, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Monday, June 10, 2019, near Archer.
According to Archer Fire Chief Don De Boer, about 8:05 a.m., the Archer Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 3440 Olive Avenue, one mile west and two and a half north of Archer, or three east and two and a half south of Sheldon.
The chief says the fire department saw smoke as they approached the scene. He says they mounted a brief exterior attack and then an interior attack to fight the fire, which caused major damage to the dwelling.
De Boer says one resident was taken to Sanford Sheldon, and one dog was lost in the fire.
The fire department was assisted by the Sheldon Fire Company, the Sanborn and Hospers fire departments, and Sanborn and Sheldon Ambulance personnel.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature and affected the kitchen area.
He says the 25 firefighters from four departments were on scene for about three and a half hours.
