Statewide Iowa — Sunday (June 9th) was an extremely deadly day on Iowa’s roadways, with six people losing their lives in five separate wrecks.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, three of the four crashes involved vehicles rolling over, with the fourth finding a vehicle crossing the center line and striking a second vehicle head-on.
Despite the recent high-profile “Click-It-Or-Ticket” campaign carried out by the Iowa State Patrol along with local and county law enforcement officers across the state, four of the people who perished in Sunday’s crashes were NOT wearing their seat belts, according to the Iowa State Patrol. One of the drivers who died WAS buckled in, according to troopers, but in one crash a passenger in the vehicle who was wearing their seat belt was injured, while the unbuckled driver of the vehicle was killed.
Sunday’s sixth fatality was a motorcyclist in Des Moines, who was killed when he ran a red light while speeding, and collided with an SUV.
While none of these fatal crashes happened in our area, they should serve as a reminder to buckle your seat belt ANY TIME you get into a car or truck.
