Doon, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man was taken to a hospital after an accident near Doon early Friday morning, December 20th, 2024.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 4:40 a.m., 36-year-old Chris Schwartze of Rock Rapids was southbound in the 2300 block of Highway 75, three miles east and two north of Doon in a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, when he swerved to avoid a deer that entered the roadway.
Schwartze lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the northbound lane and entered the northbound ditch, causing the vehicle to roll. The vehicle came to rest on the passenger side.
Schwartze was extricated from the vehicle by Doon Fire and Rescue. The Lyon County Ambulance took him to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids.
