Rock Rapids, Iowa– A Rock Rapids woman has died and an Orange City woman was life-flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital after an accident near Rock Rapids on Friday, June 14, 2024.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 4:30 p.m., 48-year-old Joni Wulf of Rock Rapids was driving a 2004 Chevrolet northbound on Highway 75, about three and a half miles south of Rock Rapids. They tell us that 29-year-old Megan Klapperich of Orange City was southbound on 75 in a 2018 Jeep.
The report says that Wulf was left of center and Klapperich swerved to the left to avoid Wulf, but the vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane.
Wulf died from injuries sustained in the crash. The Avera Careflight helicopter took Klapperich to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
The trooper writing the report says two other troopers, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Rock Rapids Fire Department, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, Trackside Towing, and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
